5 Things 2020 Should've Taught You

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

This year has been a doozy for all of us. A global pandemic took over our lives, jobs were lost, lives were lost, and we were all left asking WHY??? Letting go of the old has been a running theme for 2020, and as we approach a New Year, let's keep that same mentality while bringing in 2021. We've all been reevaluating our lives, reinventing ourselves, and letting go of the things that don't serve us. So here is a list of 5 lessons you should take with you into 2021.

1.Don't neglecting self care.

If you have learned anything from this year, it's that HEALTH is WEALTH. In a society where we are all go go go, we can't forget to take care of our mind, body, and spirit. The buck stops here, and it is up to you to keep that engine running. So prioritize time for yourself, and do something that fulfills you. Remember you won't go very far on an empty battery, and you refuel by taking care of yourself. Relax, Refresh, and Recharge.

2. There is no hero to save the day.

BREAKING NEWS: You are the hero of your own story. If there is something you want, it's time for you to go for what you know. Now don't get me wrong, you will get help along the way, but it all starts with you. You are the author of the story, so figure out what brings you joy, and put all of your energy into bringing more of that into the world. The internet has become the great equalizer. You can learn anything your heart desires, find your tribe, or just waste time. The choice is yours, so choose wisely.

3. Live your life with intention.

Remember that saying, "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything?" Well it is the same for setting your intentions. If you don't, somebody or something else will. Intentions turns into actions, that turns into habits, that turns into character, that turns into your destiny!

Who do you want to be in control of that?

4. Live a life that serves your higher self.

I think it goes without saying, but we were not made to just work and buy things. I believe we do have some sort of purpose beyond ourselves, and we get closer to finding that purpose when we do things that bring us true joy. For me, rollerskating has been my great escape during these uncertain times. Vibing out to amazing music that gets me moving, and tuning out all the things that don't really matter allowed me to key in on the things that do. Remember money, fame, and material things are nice, but they have no intrinsic value. They can bring you happiness, but it is very fleeting. So ground yourself in something real, YOU.

5. Stop sweating the small stuff.

Take some notes from the 5-5-5 rule: "if it won't matter in 5 days, 5 months, or 5 years, then let it go! There will be many obstacles in life, so don't go making a mountain out of a molehill. Learn to accept the things you can't change, and change the things you can. The rest doesn't really matter.

Lastly, I just want to say THANK YOU ALL. It's been a rough year, but we got through it together. We've learned and lost a lot, but that has not stopped us. Now let's take what 2020 has taught us, and walk into 2021 bigger and better. See you all next year!
